Due to communication difficulties, I did not know about the meeting with the South African contingent until after it happened. Therefore, I regrettably was unable to actually sign the Cairo Declaration by hand, which is why I am signing via the Internet. This means a great deal to me, and I'm deeply disappointed to have missed the meeting with the South African contingent, because I worked tirelessly for over a decade in the anti-apartheid movement here in San Francisco for a Free South Africa. Then in 1994, I took a leave of absence from my job to travel to South Africa to work as a volunteer on the election campaign in the ANC regional office in the Easter Cape (East London). I am very moved and grateful to see COSATU and others from South African now working for Palestinian liberation.
